Drivers in the Rosny-sous-Bois region of Paris are to be offered a new service designed to help them through the congested streets of the French capital.
Tom TomTraffic, the new offering from Dutch navigation and route guidance specialists, Nomadic Technologies, uses a combination of GPS data from the company's generic Tom Tom service together with links to the Centre National d'Informations Routieres, the publically funded source of information on traffic conditions on the French national road network.
While similar to a number of other commercial products already on the market, this is the first time that drivers in the Paris region have been offered the solution.
Details of accidents, traffic-jams and other congestion-forming incidents will immediately be sent to a user's PDA giving the duration of the standstill of the traffic and its location and suggesting an alternative route.
The service, which is expected to be launched in May, will be offered free for the first three months.
